This course will enable students to develop their design ideas and practical skills through the medium of textiles. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the areas of fashion and textiles in the home.
Units of work include: Fibres, Fabrics, Enhancement of fabrics and Fashion product construction
Using theoretical and practical experience, the students will study design needs, fibre classification, construction and maintenance techniques, embroidery techniques / computerised design, the influence of fashion, advertising and the media, correct choice and use of tools.
Students will be asked for a voluntary contribution in Year 10 to enable students to undertake a wide variety of decorative and technical processes. Students will need to purchase their own fabric and components for their controlled assessment in Year 11. The cost of this does not need to be great and is determined by the students' individual designs.
(Students who take this course should not opt for GCSE Food Technology or GCSE Hospitaluty & Catering as well).
